As previously reported, TC Harrison Ford, Pride Park were recently awarded a Defibrillator (AED) and CPR training package by the British Heart Foundation.

The public access Defibrillator is now in place and available for deployment 24hrs 7days a week.

The AED storage cabinet is located at the boundary of TC Harrison Ford dealership, mounted on a lamp post, directly opposite the showroom entrance. It’s bright colouring and illuminated door, make it very easy to locate.

Access to the cabinet is possible by following simple instructions displayed on the door. Upon making a 999 call the operator will inform of the combination lock code to release the AED, after the caller quotes the cabinet location code.

Marking the occasion, of this potentially life-saving equipment becoming available, James Hornby, Community Resuscitation Trainer for East Midlands Ambulance Service attended TC Harrison Ford to hold a life-saving skills workshop. Les Baynton, British Heart Foundation Ambassador, kindly unveiled the defibrillator and gave a presentation on the BHF work and mission to achieve a nation of live-savers.

Yvonne Gorman of Essential Print Services and PridePark.Net, attended to help spread the word around Pride Park. Sharon Brunt, Communications and Marketing Manager from BOHS – The Chartered Society of Worker Health Protection and Claire Creed also from BOHS attended as a number of staff are keen to undertake CPR training.

However, it is all well and good having a defibrillator available at Pride Park, but it is key that as many people know how to perform CPR as possible. CPR is vitally important to maintain a circulation of oxygenated blood to the brain, in the event of a cardiac arrest. We will soon be releasing dates for our monthly CPR Training workshops, held at our Pride Park dealership.  Training only takes an hour and includes both adult and child CPR techniques and is open to all Pride Park business staff, customers and general public.

Yvonne Gorman

Pride-Park based Essential Print Services’ owner and print evangelist, Yvonne Gorman, recently spent the day in the capital to help launch this year’s “Small Business Saturday UK” Campaign.

As one of only twenty Entrepreneurs from around the UK chosen to be a Small Business Saturday UK Champion, Yvonne’s passion and dedication to all things print as well as her on-going support to small, local businesses, made her the ideal candidate for the role. She also claims the accolade of being one of the first ‘Top 100’ who visited Downing Street in 2013.

The purpose of the campaign is to raise awareness and the profiles of smaller businesses and the necessity of local support. The campaign also highlights the substantial contribution that these small businesses make to the UK economy as a whole.

Saturday 5th December sees the spotlight firmly placed on the small businesses of the UK. It is Yvonne’s mission to unite the small businesses of Derby and Derbyshire in a show of strength and solidarity, to demonstrate the diverse range of products and services available in and around the region and indeed the East Midlands. It’s also a chance for local people to show their support by visiting their local retailers and service providers.

“Small Business Saturday plays a valuable role in focussing the minds of consumers and fellow business owners on what small businesses can offer in terms of range of products and service” explains Yvonne. “Most people in this country either own a small business, work for a small business or know somebody who does so we are delighted to have been asked to champion the campaign”.

In 2014, the campaign saw in the region of 16.5 million people spending with smaller businesses in the UK on this one day alone, bringing in a staggering £504 million worth of revenue. This was a 20% increase on the estimated 2.7 million people who shopped locally previously in 2013.

In the run up to the main event there will be a series of free to attend workshops held up and down the country. Not to be outdone by the rest of the UK, Derby City Council will be hosting its very own free event on the day (Saturday 5th December), at the Council House, which will include workshops, an exhibition and talks.
